As I stepped into the gates of Quezon City Science High School, I was faced with a dilemma of whether I could BIDA best like everyone else who aimed to go home with an award. However, I was met with the feeling of familiarity, as I decked through the school’s familiar halls.
Just three years ago, I was chosen by my school to be a representative for BRAINIAC Year 1 at the University of the Philippines Diliman, a nerve-wracking experience for first timers like me to even vye for the sci-tech champ. The clash of the sci-tech champs was not all about brains, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital proved that it also bled the warm spirit of camaraderie.

Perhaps this was the only thing I learned in Grey’s Anatomy as I happen to have taken part for cluster eliminations, that even the quote itself encapsulated my franticness and eureka moments as I hovered through the test.
“Next from CAMANAVA, we have Navotas National Science High School.”
Yes. Yes. Yes.
At the exact moment that we were called, we gathered at our spots at Kisay’s auditorium, the same spot where I saw the same people that I met during the Regional Science and Technology Fair 2024, whom were already recognized by BIDA Lourdes as Sci-Tech Champs in the field of health sciences, where I was privileged to have been awarded by the #BIDALourdesChoice Award. The people that I saw in that stadium were not merely one trick ponies, but they serve as testaments that Brainiac shapes the future of catalysts of science and technology in the Philippines.
Perhaps, even as we qualified in the finals, the singular and echoing thought to be within the halls of Pisay made me so excited not because I know that BRAINIAC is filled with robust competitors, but rather because Brainiac molds and drives students like me to do better in representing our school and igniting the spirit of competition and sportsmanship.
In all this, BRAINIAC served as an avenue for us students to have been exemplary models in our own community, that even as I am writing this piece itself, I have my fellow sci-tech champs in mind, while carving my own spot in the history of BRAINIAC.
Whether I have been a real champion during that time or not, I sure have claimed my own spot in the history of BRAINIAC finishing off as a 3rd placer in individual rankings in the CAMANAVA cluster, and serving to inspire fellow students in our school community.
To BIDA best of the best , is a feeling that is vested upon all of us, and Brainiac granted that medium to search for future molders of science and technology–whether it is from someone who is still figuring out their own strengths, or from someone who’s already adept at their own field, and that’s something we will see at BRAINIAC Finals on February 15 at the prestigious halls of Philippine Science High School.
